About Me:
Often referred to as Nottingham's Singing Poet - Born Nottingham - fell in love with Rachmaninov at the age of 7 after seeing the film 'The Story of the Three Loves' - trained as a teacher Bishop Grosseteste College, Lincoln - studied Divinity - taught all ages over the years from nursery upwards - performed poetry and songs - given talks and seminars - led Creative Writing classes for adults in Cork, Ireland and in Leicestershire & Nottingham - obtained B.A.(Arts/Humanities) in 1981 and M.A. (Anglo-Irish Literature) - began Ph.D studies in theology and Literature at Durham and Glasgow under tutelage of David Jasper (deferred) - performance-workshops given in many schools and libraries - performance poet, singer, songwriter, writer, workshops organiser, events organiser, folk club founder and organiser - member of PRS and MCPS - lived in Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, North London, Republic of Ireland - former secretary of Open University Poetry Association, co-founder Cork Women's Poetry Circle with Maire Bradshaw - former officer Cork Rape Crisis Centre - former secretary Nottingham Poetry Society - performances and readings given in many venues in UK, Ireland and Germany (mainly Karlsruhe and Magdeburg) - founder of CEIL festival (Community Expansions in Literature) - founder Keyworth Folk Club - pioneer of 'Weltenschauung' - world-view poetry competiton - pioneer of 'Robin Hood - figure of justice' poetry competition - articles, stories, poetry published in various magazines - frequently performed and interviewed on BBC Radio Nottingham - interviewed Radio Leicester - RTE - Cork - National Poetry Day feature on East Midlands today BBC TV - was involved in the Movement for the Ordination of Women - many workshops and performances in Nottingham City Libraries and schools, Nottinghamshire Libraries and schools - Greenwich Libraries London - Maltby, Rotherham, Hull, Coventry, Derbyshire, Huddersfield, Birmingham, The Barbican and many others -spoken and performed at various literacy projects, writers groups, literary circles, Pakistani Centre Nottingham, Asian Women's Centre Nottingham -storytelling in many venues including Asda! - devised and performed a programme with Roy Dyson 'Spirit of the Greenwood' involving stories, poems and songs - sung in retirement homes, at concerts, festivals, churches, special events , clubs, RAF bases,restaurants and at poetry readings! Work a lot with children in schools and libraries
