"Full House For The Poet’s Gallery"
VIVA is getting a reputation as the place to be on a Saturday night! It was standing room only in the front gallery at our second evening of poetry reading and the overflow of attendees didn’t seem to mind that they had to watch and listen from the 2nd gallery. Dori Marler was our hostess and mistress of ceremonies while Carolyn Uhri made sure that there were enough cookies and coffee to whet the audience’s appetite.
Jeanne Marie Spicuzza was our guest poet and her performance was outstanding! Her reading of Helen of Troy’s story (spoken as a Brooklyn housewife) had everyone laughing. More than 20 people signed up to read poetry and one of them (Sven Amsterdam) even brought his electric guitar to enhance his political and socially offbeat musings. Another poet reflected spontaneously on a painting by Richard Herd which made a terrific backdrop behind our stage. For many it was the first time that they had visited VIVA and they were invited to have a look at Valley Artists Guild’s current exhibit. We hope to organize another evening of poetry reading for sometime in July during our all group exhibit, “The Tenth Anniversary All Group Exhibition”.
