About Me:
First of all, I work full time as an Administrative Assistant in Los Angeles. I am the mother of a 13-year old beautiful, intelligent, energetic and very verbal daughter who is also wanting to write. But her stories are a little on the strange side...or as she puts it, "Ok, they are random!"

I am a huge supporter of the arts and of music. Creatively, my first love is to write. Especially poetry, because I value the freedom of expression. To me it symbolizes me being myself -- who I am, and being able to share my work in the spoken word arena is a privilege. I have had the privilege of publishing my first book of poetry, which I am very excited about. And anxiously waiting to publish my next book in 2008. Outside of poetry, I enjoy writing stories. I am in the process of working on my first novel. So this is truly a challenge for me. It has been my biggest dream to be a part of such a large community of poets, and I hope that I can grow and meet other poets as well.

But when I am not creating new poems or working on a novel, I am pulling computers apart and putting them back together, or I am upgrading them, installing new hardware, or just spending time researching what's new in the technology industry. I took a course in computer repair and hope to get my A+ certification before the end of 2008.

In the meantime, I hope you check out my blog listed on this page, or visit my site, Versestified. I hope to see you there.

Favorite Poet or Author:
My all time favorite poet is Maya Angelou. Her words speaks volumes, and she speaks with such grace -- that the messages in her poetry are powerful and impacting on lives. For authors, I would have to say my favorite author is Danielle Steele. I have a nice collection of her books to include Malice, Zoya, Kaleidoscope, just to name a few. Her books are intriguing, and they take you all over the world and tell of wonderful times and places; the tell of traggic times with beautiful endings, and times that were life changing. I often wish I could write like her.

Welcome All!

Thanks for stopping by my page. Browse around and feel free to leave a comment on my poems, my blogs, get involved in the LA reading I am hoping we can get going, or just to say hello. I am happy to meet such talented poets and to read their work. I hope to read yours soon.

Black in America (Poem)

The world will close their eyes to me.
My voice will go unheard.
My tears will go unseen.
My cries will be silenced by the absence of compassion
For I am
Black in America.

A woman,
Fighting to climb my way
Out of a box
No bigger than the space I am standing in,
Spending hour after hour saying
"Yes, sir."
"No, sir."
"Thank you, sir."
Just to collect a paycheck that is
Far below my worth.
I do not make a fuss.
I do not complain.
I do not make reference to my disagreement
Of pay.
It is what feeds… Continue

Second Book to be Released March 12, 2009

Hi, Everybody,
Well, I had surgery last week on Tuesday, Jan. 20, so I'm home now taking some time to get through the recovery process before I have to return to work on Feb. 9. I am happy to let everyone know that my book, "Sins of a Poet," will be officially released on March 12, 2009, however, it can be ordered at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com, and at the online book store at PublishAmerica.com. If I do another book of poetry, it will probably focus on the human rights aspect of life. Rig… Continue

Back on the Block

Hello, Poets & Friends,
It's been a while but I'm back on the block and have picked up the pen once again. So what did I miss? I hope nothing too important. Thanks to those who have kept up with sending me e-mail. Know that if I have not responded, I have read the e-mails.

Life's been interesting on my end. Working like mad to finish a novel, done crying over a book that got rejected for publishing, and looking to see what else I can get my pen into. So, holla back, and let me know what's b… Continue

Recovering from being Sick

After a week and a half of being sick, I am finally feeling much better and off to working on finishing my book projects. It's amazing how being sick can knock you off your feet and make you get the rest you need -- that's exactly what happened to me. But I was in and out of work last week, just finishing up last minute things and small things. Even still, I had a chance to get some long-deserving rest. During that time I had a chance to reflect on how my life is going. Being a full-time working… Continue

First Publishing Statement

Ok, so I received my first publishing statement from my publisher. I shook the envelope just to make sure I did not miss anything. Simple because there was no royalty check. I had gotten so discouraged that I nearly hung up the pen and paper for good. But then my boyfriend told me that I couldn't let myself be worried about not getting a royalty check and that I was a new author whose name was not known. He said I had to work hard to promote my work, my books and my name in order for people to k… Continue

Hi Rene - Yep, the picture was taken in Oceanside - as you know really there is no real river in Riverside. I checked out your website - really nice stuff and your book looks terrific. Good luck with it - and best of luck to your daughter too.
