twins, Afghanistan and everyday heroes

Daylight.
Another day of conquer and survival.

The animal farm is awakening.
The American President has spoken,
brings
the vicissitudes and fortunes of war
to the head of the class
at West Point.
Thirty thousand troops are fated statistics
to enter Afghanistan, the legendary empire killer,
Republican war chiefs
are happy as a lark and the people who
believed in some kind of hero for the people
are left much to their own chagrin, we'll see says
history, ever and often repeated.

A grandfather writes a poem:

"Two tiny heartbeats
Dissolved back into
their source.
Return as tears
streaming down
a grandfather's face."

His son and wife were expecting twins.

How many times can every-day hearts be broken?

My Californian friend, the x-monk
says he's glad he lives in America and doesn't
live in Oakland, where Dem. Congresswoman Lee, stumbles
over her own words, a victim of grammatical assassins when
she is interviewed
by Anderson Cooper on CNN, and Rep. Dennis Kucinich spoke
to MSNBC, always a light in the forest, where no one can see
the trees.

Bodies will be returning in black bags,
badges of courage,
more bombs and legions of fatherless and motherless children
will vow vengeance, and nothing has changed any one's
way of life... the Taliban will live inside caves to see another day,
America will lose her own self-respect for the truth was never ours.

the sound of one heart breaking
fills the ocean
with waves

the grandfather says:

"Life breaks all hearts.
Everywhere I look.........heroes.

It's late in Ohio.......tomorrow's commin."

Yes. Life always answers: Yes!

Today is already here, newborn suckling pigs.

Sometimes You Have To Wear Your Heart On A Sleeve

Sometimes You Have To Wear Your Heart On A Sleeve

Sometimes you have to wear your heart
on your sleeve
worship the Black Madonna
and remember the tall ships that
brought you in chains to the
shores that separated your children
and husband and flogged you and
made you kiss the boots of an overseer,
that stripped you naked and sold you
to the highest bidder,

sometimes

you have to wear the Flag of Palestine
draped over your Jewish heart, remember
that Moses and Jesus walked over the same
deser… Continue

A Summer's Day

A Summer's Day

It's a beautiful summer day...
perfect peacock-blue skies
a white cloud or two just for punctuation
neighborhood children play
parents with short tempers yell and shout
sadly
children mostly live what they learn...
yesterday an officer was shot in the line of duty
first one ever in Twinsburg, Ohio
a teenager passes by a smiling child...
excited to show him something
or another...
"that's neat, little brother." he says,
and goes on his way...

I wonder how many summers are like… Continue

Peace Is A Gift

There is a Red Book

There is a red book lying on my floor
rows of crimson-robed monks
sitting in meditation
on its cover...
there are rows of soldiers
marching to a different drum,

the monks are falling in Tibet and Myanmar,
the soldiers in Israel and Iraq,

there are voices of despair, hope and
innocence in rows of graves where all colours
fade into bones yellowing with age

…burning ash fills the night sky,

and time keeps marching in the lament
of my begging bowl,
I am shrouded in white,… Continue
